     ACTIVITIES

            (to name just a  few) . . .

  • Hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking are just some of the outdoor activities around Darby.  There are many designated National Forest trails and logging roads to wander through the mountains and along the rivers.

  • Fishing, boating, swimming, and rafting are popular.  We can recommend fishing and floating guides.  Take a dip in the Bitterroot River or Lake Como approximately 8 miles from us.

  • The Hamilton Golf Club, approximately 16 miles north, is blessed with great weather and open mid-March through October.  It is a beautiful 18-hole course with a par 72.

  •  Visit the historic Big Hole National Battlefield (an hour drive) near Wisdom, MT.  It was the site of the Battle of the Big Hole on August 9 and 10, 1877, a turning point of the Nez Perce War.  There is a visitor center, ranger-conducted programs, presentations and exhibits.

  •  Drive 19 miles south on the West Fork Road (Hwy 473) up to the Painted Rocks State Park and Reservoir and visit the historic Alta Ranger Station.  It was the first ranger station in the United States.

  • The Darby Ranger Station and Visitor Center across the street on Highway 93 features displays of Forest Service memorabilia from the 1930s and 1940s and offers visitor information services on other valley attractions, as well as wood permits, maps, day-use passes for Lake Como and campground information.

  • The Darby Pioneer Memorial Museum is housed in a 100+ year-old log cabin. The building was donated to Darby by the Matteson family and sits near the town's Main Street beside the library on Tanner Street.  It is filled with intriguing relics of Darby's past.
